Founded in Venice as “RETE—Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities” in 2004, a non-profit, legal organisation which is independent of who its members are.
Our Association’s Mission is to build an international network of port cities and ports, with an emphasis, though not exclusive to, Southern European, the Mediterranean and Latin American cities, with the aim of developing and improving reciprocal relationships and mutual collaboration in order to achieve a balanced and qualified development of urban and port areas.
With this aim, “RETE – Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities” develops its activities in accordance to three main lines of action:
- To establish a platform accessible to the most advanced knowledge in the different fields and disciplines associated to the study of the problematic in port cities and their relation to the port.
- Configure itself as a permanent observatory of the dynamics of port cities, from which we can track and evaluate the initiatives carried out in these cities.
- Define itself as an active laboratory which, at the highest levels of authority, stimulates the production, analysis and dissemination of new ideas capable of inspiring innovative actions and reforms in the field of port cities.
RETE is international, founded in three countries: Italy, Spain and Portugal.
